Using Smart Quotes

Pagehand can replace typewriter quotes ( ' and " ) with typographically correct quotes as you type.

Pagehand saves this setting with your document. The setting saved in a template is used for all new documents created from the template.

To enable or disable smart quotes:

  • 1. From the Edit menu choose Smart Quotes.
  • 2. A checkmark appears if smart quotes is enabled.

You can override the document’s smart quotes setting for selected text by using the smart quotes override setting in the Effects palette. You can add the smart quotes override setting to a character style using the Styles Editor.

You can insert straight quotes, even if smart quotes is turned on, by typing control-' or control-".
