Working With Fractions

Pagehand makes it easy to create fractions that are much prettier than the standard 1/2, 3/4, etc.

To make a pretty fraction, you should:

  • reduce the font size of the numerator and denominator;
  • raise the baseline of the numerator;
  • use a fraction slash character rather than a text slash character;
  • kern the components for proper horizontal spacing

Pagehand provides a simple tool that does these things for you.

Insert Fraction sheet

The controls pictured above allow you to:

  • enter the numerator and denominator values
  • adjust the baseline and kerning of the numerator
  • adjust the kerning of the denominator
  • use a fraction slash or a text slash;
  • use the current text font or the default system font

As you adjust the controls, the magnified preview updates to display the changes.

To insert a pretty fraction:

  • 1. From the Insert menu choose Fraction...
  • 2. Adjust the fraction using the controls pictured above.
  • 3. Click the Insert button.

After you have inserted the fraction, you can continue to adjust it using the regular controls in the Character View palettes.
