Page Numbers and Self-Updating Text

You can insert three types of values that update themselves as needed:

  • page numbers
  • dates
  • the section name

Typically you insert page numbers and the section name in a header or footer. You might insert the date in a header or at the beginning of a business letter.

Pagehand keeps track of page numbers for the entire document and for each section according to its page numbering settings. When you insert a page number or page count, you indicate whether to use numbering from the document or the section. You also choose the appearance of the number.

You can insert three kinds of dates:

  • a non-updating date that does not change
  • an updating date that always displays the current date
  • a date that updates only when a new document is created from a document style.

The third kind of date is useful only in document styles.

To insert a page number or page count:

  • From the Insert menu choose Insert Page Number...

To insert a date:

  • From the Insert menu choose Insert Date...

To insert the section name:

  • From the Insert menu choose Insert Section Name.
