Units of Measure

Pagehand can handle most measurements in points, inches, centimeters, and picas. A few items, such as font size, are measured only in points.

You can choose the the unit of measure for a document. That unit is used in the ruler and in text fields that display measurements.

You can choose a particular unit of measure, or you can use the default unit as specified by System Preferences.

To set the unit of measure used by a document:

  • From the Format menu choose Measuring Unit, then choose System Default, Inches, Centimeters, Points, or Picas.

Text fields that display measurements, such as paragraph indenting, display an abbreviation of the unit in effect; for example, 0.5 in. In these text fields, you can choose to display a different unit.

To display a different unit in a text field:

  • 1. Right-click in the text field.
  • 2. From the contextual menu, choose Default, Inches, Centimeters, Points, or Picas.

You can also enter a value in a text field using a specified unit.

To enter a value in a text field using a specified unit:

  • 1. Click in the text field to select its contents.
  • 2. Type the numeric value followed by the abbreviation for the unit you are using: in, cm, pt, or pi.

For example, to place a value of 0.25 inch in a text field that is displaying 0.5 in you could type 0.25 or you could type 18 pt.
