Documents, Windows, and Tabs

An application can present multiple documents in two ways: as separate windows, or as tabs in the same window. While some applications, like Safari, allow you to choose the method that you prefer, word processors tend to present one document per window. Pagehand lets you choose. You can open a document as a tab in the current window, or as a separate window. You can even drag tabs between windows, or drag a tab out of its window to give it a window of its own.

When you open a document or make a new document, Pagehand looks at your Preferences settings to determine whether you like tabs or separate windows.

To open new documents as tabs in the current window or as separate windows:

  • From the File menu check or uncheck Open Next In Tab.
  • —OR—
  • In Preferences/General/Open documents as, choose Windows or Tabs.

To reorder documents in a window:

  • Drag the tab to the desired location.

To move a document from a tab to a separate window:

  • Drag the tab outside its window.

To move a document from one window to another:

  • Drag the document’s tab to the tab bar of the desired window.
